4 Weeks!

4 weeks from today we are set to close on our house. We were hoping for earlier but the seller isn't able to move out earlier. The inspection is set for Thursday & appraisal will be shortly after. I'm super excited to close and start the remodeling that we have planned so we can hopefully be completely settled by the time school starts. (John & I also have a kid-free mini-getaway planned for mid-August!)

I'm counting down again...4 weeks to go!

(Just some random completely unrelated but adorable pictures)

Evening Hike

Last night we decided to go on a little hike at Heyburn State Park which is just a couple miles from where we are staying. It was a beautiful evening, and I'm so glad we took advantage of the nice weather since it is currently pouring down rain, windy, and cold. It's hard to believe it's almost July!

Farragut

We spent this weekend camping at Farragut State Park with some friends. I was a little concerned about the weather forecast, but most of the Time the weather was great! We even got to spend some time at the lake on Friday (although we got chased off by a thunderstorm).

There were plenty of kids to play with, lots of bike riding, and trees to climb! The boys didn't want to leave, and neither did we.

We are now headed back to the bison ranch, but I have a feeling it will take quite a while to get there since today is the Ironman race and we have to drive along a good portion of the bike route.

Exciting Days

We have had a couple of exciting days around our trailer! Yesterday, Preston lost his first tooth! This was a pretty big deal for him, and he has a nice gaping hole to show for it. He was up bright and early (5:30!) this morning to check what the tooth fairy brought him.

Then, today we heard the news that we got bank approval for the short sale! Woohoo! We have to close by July 25th, but hoping to be a week or so ahead of that. This definitely puts us ahead of our anticipated timeline, and it looks like we'll end up only spending about 2.5 months in the trailer. We will probably continue to live in it for a couple of weeks while we paint and put new flooring in, but we'll see what happens with that.

Rain, Rain, and More Rain

It's raining again. Ugh. We're so ready for summer weather! Luckily the boys enjoy some indoor activities (Legos, play-doh, art), but it's still a huge challenge to keep the peace between them!

Father's Day

We had a nice laid back Father's Day. The weather was warm and (surprisingly) not rainy so we lazed around outside, played, basketball, rode bikes, played with the puppies, had a campfire and cooked dinner and dessert over it.

Preston made breakfast but was disappointed that we didn't have any chocolate syrup to put on John's cereal!

We're Back!

We just got back from a trip to Oregon to celebrate my grandma's 90th birthday. We had just planned to stay for the weekend, but at the last minute we bought John a plane ticket back since he had to work, and I stayed a few extra days and drove back with the boys. I was a little nervous to make the 8 hour drive by myself (well, as the only adult anyway), but the boys surprised me by being on their best behavior. It was all smooth sailing until we got just a little outside of Spokane and there was a 2 car roll-over accident right in front of us. It freaked me out a little but luckily the boys were all either sleeping or playing video games and they barely even noticed except to ask why I pulled over!

We got to go to both the zoo and the coast while we were in Oregon. I really miss the ocean, and lake beaches just aren't the same as ocean beaches! The boys had lots of fun spending time with their grandparents, great-grandmothers, aunts, uncles, cousins... We don't make it there very often but when we do, we try to see everyone.

So we're all back "home" except we have to pick up the trailer since we took it in to get it checked out because I thought we had a leak. They said they couldn't find anything so I guess we'll just keep an eye on it. After going almost a week with virtually no sleep (Archer was sick and was a terrible sleeper the whole time we were gone), I'm ready to attempt to get some sleep in my own (slightly uncomfortable but at least familiar) bed!

Fish

While we were in Oregon it was free fishing day. The boys got to go fishing with their Poppa, Daddy, uncle, and cousins. They went to a stocked pond for kids and brought back 2 large fish each. This was Archer's first time catching a fish and he was definitely telling fish stories...he told me it was as tall as the ceiling! (it was the biggest of the bunch though.)

Pros & Cons

Pretty much everyone who hears we are living in a 23' trailer thinks we are crazy. And if they know we have 3 small boys, they think we are beyond crazy. After almost 3 weeks of trailer life with probably 90% of those days being rainy, I can honestly say it's not that bad. Seriously.

I have a fraction of the space to keep clean. Try going from cleaning 3700+ sq ft to cleaning less than 200. It's pretty nice! It does get messier quicker, and it feels messy if we just have a couple of things out (if I'm making dinner & the boys are playing a game it feels insanely messy!), but overall this is my favorite part!

It is also a lot easier to keep track of my kids. I lost them a lot in our old house, and given that my boys are SLIGHTLY mischievous, that was a big negative. (Although Archer did flush some toothbrushes last night...)

The crazy thunder storms we've been having keep me awake at night, but they don't seem to bother the boys. Which brings me to another negative...sleep. Archer especially is getting very little sleep. He generally doesn't go to sleep until 10:00 pm and he's waking up at around 6:00 am. He is also refusing to sleep during the day unless we go somewhere and he falls asleep in the car. This makes for some insane temper tantrums (which he could already throw a pretty spectacular one...add in 3 weeks of sleep deprivation and WOW).

I do miss having a controlled outdoor environment, and being able to really cook and bake, but we have an outdoor area to prepare food here and plenty of space for the kids to run and play with supervision so I guess I shouldn't complain too much.

John may disagree with me on this, but I feel a lot more relaxed here. I don't feel compelled to make sure my kids are getting a huge variety of healthy foods...they can eat raw vegetables instead of some elaborate veggie side dish and I don't feel guilty. I have been buying bread since I didn't bring my loaf pan, and they get cereal and yogurt for breakfast a lot. And that's okay! I am learning to be less controlling (I think).

So really, it's not so bad. The boys are learning to play with the few things we brought to play with indoors, and we've also been having play dates (laundry time as well!). Pretty sure I wouldn't be so enthusiastic if it was permanent but I'm enjoying it temporarily! And when we finally get into our house, it will feel like a mansion!

Yet Another Rainy Day

The rain is starting to get a little ridiculous. After my banana bread was done this morning, we spent yet another day at a friend's house.

The barrel of monkey's is still getting a lot of use though!

Crockpot bread, take 2

SUCCESS!

After my burned bread the other day, I decided to give it another shot. It's been so rainy & cold, and we spent the last couple of days at friend's houses so we are stuck inside today. A perfect day to try baking banana bread!

It came out PERFECT. I'm pretty proud of it actually. The boys have already eaten half of it (while watching copious amounts of Dr. Seuss DVD's...Bad mom award for me, but it's challenging to occupy them when the weather is so bad).

Bread FAIL

I am gluten-free, so I either make my own bread or go without. The loaf pan didn't make the cut for the trailer, so I had planned to just go without. (I'm too afraid to light the oven anyway!) I've been feeling kind of bread deprived for the past couple of weeks, and it's even worse that the boys have been eating an abundance of pb&j!
I read somewhere about baking bread in the crockpot so thought I'd give it a try. Well...let's just say its probably not a good idea to mix it up, put it in the crockpot, and then leave intending to be back after a "quick" playdate.
It will not be quick. Especially when it takes 45 minutes to get there...then it's so warm and sunny that you stay a little longer...then your friend's son staples his finger & you can't get the staple out so you stay with the other kids until they get back...then you have a 45 minute drive back...
Your bread will be burned.
The non-burned part is edible though so I'll try it again with more supervision!

Small Town Living

We made a little side trip this weekend to get a solar panel installed on our trailer. We're pretty excited to be able to camp anywhere we want and not have to worry about electricity. Previously, we never depended on electricity while camping but full-time camping makes electricity a little more important!
So this weekend we are a couple hours north of the bison ranch at an RV park outside a small town. This morning we took in the Farmer's Market and the car show. There are lawn mower races later today that John wants to go to, but we'll see. I'm feeling a little reminiscent of the time we spent living in a small town in Montana...I didn't really enjoy living there full time but it's nice every once in a while.
------------------updated----------------
John & the older boys took a paddle boat out on the lake and went fishing this afternoon while Archer napped. Bryton caught 2 fish, and they caught 2 turtles to bring back to show Archer. We ended up skipping the lawn mower races, and finished up the day with s'mores, pie iron pb&j's, and stuffed bananas. I'm seriously going to put on a few pounds this summer!

Around Camp

Memorial Day

I have now typed up a Memorial Day post twice now, but I've lost it twice thanks to sketchy Internet. Oh the joys of RV park living! :) So, to sum up:
1. Plummer Marsh at Heyburn State Park (nature walk)
2. Lots of bike riding and relaxing
3. Yummy BBQ & Dutch oven dinner
