6 days in...

We are loving the ranch that we are camping at. It's a little bit further south so we are exploring some new areas, especially now that #1, the rain has cleared up, and #2, I have stopped puking (no one else got it thankfully!).

The weather is beautiful, and I'm (surprisingly) enjoying life in the trailer! It's mostly stress-free, and right now there are 2 families with 11 kids between them (all over the age of 10) camping next to us so we have acquired some built-in entertainment for the boys!

Today we went to a pancake feed at a small town a little ways away, then went and explored the mountains a little. Then we came back home, went for a bike ride, and cooked some yummy quesadillas & corn over the campfire (followed by marshmallows). Now it is bath & bedtime!

Rain, Rain, Go Away

It as rained every single day. Pretty much nonstop. Last night it stopped for about 10 minutes right after John came home from work, and today there has been a couple of 5-10 minute breaks but really, I'm ready for some SUN. And so are the boys!

I've been driving the boys about 45 minutes (one way) to school every day and that's starting to get old too, but next week is their last week and it's only 3 days! Hopefully the weather will turn nice and warm soon so the boys can play outside a little more, especially when school is out!

The Adventure Begins

We are moved! All of our stuff is in a 12'x25 storage unit and we have officially moved in to our new living quarters.

We found a ranch with full hook-ups near John's work and we're considering staying here for at least the first month...we may take a few weekend trips here and there.

We didn't get here until about 7:30 pm, so by the time we got settled we (well John and I anyway) were completely exhausted! So far so good, except for the sleep deprivation.

We had one minor casualty today that turned out to have an okay ending. John was taking a load of stuff to the storage unit and B had left his strider bike behind the truck tire...and it is now in many, many pieces. But B learned to ride his "real" bike today because he didn't have the option to ride his other bike! Go B!

Here is a picture from bedtime tonight: John reading Narnia to the boys.

Countdown

Closing got moved up on our house so the countdown has just gone to a really scary number: 5 days until we are full time trailer living!

Just a Quote

Today I found an RV Cookbook for free for my nook. Truthfully it didn't have much in the way of recipes that I will actually use, but it did have this quote in it that I really like:

Lots of people think we are crazy for spending the summer in a trailer, and really, we might be a little...but this pretty much says it all!

Trial Run

We are currently spending our first night in the trailer. We decided we should take it out and make sure everything is working properly (good thing because our water heater isn't working...brrrrr). Unfortunately we only have one night to spare since we really need to pack - we're moving everything to storage a week from tomorrow, and then we officially move out 6 days later.

We went on a little adventure today in search of some morel mushrooms. We didn't actually find any morels, but we did find plenty of other mushrooms so the boys got educated on which mushrooms NOT to eat!

We forgot quite a few things (we're used to a little more "rustic" accommodations while camping), so I'm really glad we decided to do a trial run. Tomorrow is back to packing!

The Big Move

A few weeks ago, we decided to put our house on the market. We wanted to move somewhere with more land that was closer to John's work. We figured it would take a while to sell our house and surely we would find a new place by the time it sold. Well...3 days later we had accepted a full price offer on our house and we didn't really have any prospects for a new place.

Long story short...we DID find a new place, but it's a short sale and we are expecting 3 months (at least) until we close, leaving us homeless. I looked into rentals, but couldn't find anything reasonably priced that didn't require at least a six month lease.

On somewhat of a whim, we bought a new trailer and sold our little tent trailer. Now our plan is to travel around within a reasonable drive of John's work and camp for the summer, but who knows what will end up happening! We are very fortunate to live in an area where campgrounds are abundant! We are hoping for a trial camping trip this weekend to make sure everything is working fine on the trailer so we will have time to get any issues taken care of before the real deal.

So far the biggest challenge I've found is figuring out how to fit all of our stuff into a 23' trailer (+ a storage unit). I am gluten-free and we eat mostly vegetarian, so our diet complicates things slightly, as does having 3 VERY active little boys! I thought we were fairly minimalist, but I'm realizing that we still have more stuff than we truly NEED. But John and I are excited (mostly), and the boys are bouncing-off-the-walls excited! I'm hoping to document our summer on this blog, even if it's just to send a picture from my phone when we have cell service.

The countdown is on: 17 days!

Home sweet home!
